Skin Superfood: Shea Butter

Remember how your grandmother told you about the benefits of oil massage and ‘forced’ you to use ghee, malai/milk cream, etc.on your skin? You never paid attention, did you? I was pretty ignorant and then I regretted it. And the regret made me try different concoctions. Sharing my experience with one such natural ingredient- Shea Butter and how it has been doing wonders for me.

I’ve had a one-sided long term affair with acne and that made me try literally everything under the sun, only to settle for natural creams and lotions, mostly homemade. I’ve been whipping different butters and oils for a while now and hence decided to share my love for one of my favorite natural butters- Shea Butter. Also, when you whip ingredients at home, you at least know how you are treating your body. J

Whipped Shea Butter

Shea butter comes from the seeds of the fruit of Shea tree and is rich in Vitamins A, E & F. It is super rich in fatty acids and nutrients that help in collagen production. Also, it has a comedogenic rating of 0 which makes it perfect for oily-sensitive and acne prone skin.

Benefits of Shea Butter:

  1. Moisturizing

High concentration of fatty acids makes Shea butter incredibly hydrating and nourishing for the skin. Oleic, stearic, palmitic and linolenic acids in Shea butter protect and nourish the skin to prevent drying.  It also helps treat Eczema, dry scalp, chapped lips, razor burn, etc.

  1. Anti-inflammatory

The anti-inflammatory property of Shea butter makes it one of the greatest skin foods ever:

  • A condemogenic rating of 0 and high levels of Lupeol cinnamate makes shea butter work well in reducing skin inflammation and treating acne.
  • It also helps treat muscle aches and helps in muscle recovery. Toss a tub in your gym bag, already!
  • Anti-aging: Increases collagen production-> Fewer fine lines and wrinkles. Shea butter, head to toe!
  1. Sun Protection

With an SPF between 3 to 6, Shea Butter is used as a sun screen. It not only protects from the UV rays but also works wonders in healing sunburned skin.

Below are a few ways to use Shea Butter:

  1. Natural moisturizer for skin
  2. Lip balm- By itself or mixed with essential oils
  3. Under eye wrinkle cream and bag reducer
  4. Deodorant
  5. Whipped Body Butter

I like my Shea Butter whipped, with some oils.  I can’t help but slather this goodness on my face, body, and hair. I’ve been using it for over a year now, and I just can’t do with it.

Also, summers are here, did someone say sunburn?

I buy my Shea Butter from Amazon. While buying, make sure it has ‘Raw and unrefined’ mentioned on the pack. It is in solid form at room temperature and melts when you rub it between your palms.

You might want to use a very small amount because it is super thick and a little goes a long way. Once you start using it, you can try different amounts to see how much your skin needs.

Go nourish you skin!

5 things you must remember for an amazing workout session!

Workout must haves

It’s hard to come across people who don’t work out! Among the younger generation, I can positively sense a growing concern towards staying healthy and fit. A workout session at the start of the day or at the end has become mandatory. The rigors of long hours at the office, a sedentary lifestyle, wrong diet plans and unhealthy choices are wreaking havoc with your health.

7 Ways to Look Great in Designer Fitness Clothes

“Fitness and fashion do not go hand in hand” says only an ignorant. If you thought fitness fashion is an alien concept, you probably are living in an alien world right now. For the realm of fitness has become fashionable over the years and how! Gone are the days of ill-fitted, dull, plain-Jane, no-nonsense track pants and t-shirts. Fitness clothing is just as expressive and idea-elucidating as party-wear clothes probably. And, with the whole concept of working out becoming more holistic, great emphasis is being laid to not only what you do, but also what you eat, what kind of lifestyle you lead, and what you wear while you are on the job. For good-looking clothes not only serve as extra motivation to sweat it out like you mean it, but they also make the whole experience more fun.

And with all the myriad options we have right now to be fit and kicking, there should be no dull moment in your fit life.

McCain Stuffed Capsicum

I recently attended the #McCainMeetup by McCain Foods at Sheraton, Saket. There, I met some food and fashion bloggers, and got the opportunity to taste quick meals prepared by the head chef of McCain- Tushar.

While on my way back home, with Veggie Fingers, Potato cheese shots and some more yumminess from McCain foods in my bag I kept thinking of making a protein rich recipe using these. As you know, potatoes contain good levels of carbohydrates which help you keep your energy levels high. How about adding some protein to these and increasing the fat burning process also?
