Stand Up For Fit

Bra Size Guide by Triumph

Planning to go out for a dance night with her girlfriends, she realized that she doesn’t have the right bra. Oh but how does the bra matter anyway, I mean it’s not like she’s going to take off her clothes. And what about the dance floor? Forget it. She’ll sit in a corner and adjust the under-wire and deal with the quadraboob battle every few minutes.

She opened her bra drawer, only to realize that it’s just a bucket full of bad decisions. There’s this amazing bra that she bought on offer; it’s so pretty and it’s an A cup, I REPEAT, AN A CUP. She’s a C Cup!

And then she spotted a sexy bra that she intentionally bought two sizes smaller so that her cleavage would look noticeable; and then there’s this pretty one that stabs her in her armpits, and then another one, her favourite one that closes in the front, though it’s a little tight but she loves it because her boyfriend has a hard time figuring out how to open it.

Triumph recently did a survey and found that 70% of the women wear the wrong size of bra. In order to provide information about bra fit, why it is important and how to achieve it, the brand is launching a new campaign- Stand Up For Fit. The brand has also created a fit guide which offers advice to help women make informed decisions when buying lingerie.

Here’s everything you need to know about finding the right fit:

Bust measurement:

  1. Stand straight and breathe.
  2. Use a measuring tape and measure the under bust width (just below the bust, tight but comfortable enough to let you breathe
  3. Read the measurements and round up or down to multiples of 5.

Cup measurement:

  1. Place the measuring tape at the widest part of the bust. Ensure that you place it in a way that you don’t deform or squeeze the breasts.
  2. Ensure that the measuring tape is at the same height across the bust as across your back.
  3. Read the measurements and refer to the table of bra sizes

Wondering why is it so important to find the right size?

  1. Headaches: A bra that’s too tight causes tension on shoulders, neck and back. This in turn causes headaches.
  2. Sagging: A wrong size bra can cause the ligaments to stretch, resulting in saggy boobs.
  3. Back pain: If your bra is loose or too big, it means your boobs are not getting enough support. This leads to back pain.
  4. Indigestion: Wrong size bra can cause stomach pain and indigestion. Too tight- it’ll dig into your ribs and upper stomach, causing problems inside your body that you don’t even realize.
  5. AND AN ILL FITTED BRA SPOILS YOUR LOOK!

Before I sign off, here are three things that you should remember about your bra:

  1. Get fitted every six months to one year. Due to hormones, etc your body, especially the bust area keeps changing. Frequently worn bras have a shelf life of 6 months. Afterwards, they begin to lose shape and offer less support. Also, having the right support will improve posture and alleviate back pain.
  2. When putting on your bra, always start from the last hook. Once the bands begin to stretch, you can move to the second or third hook.
  3. Sizing varies for styles, material and silhouettes.
