Rite Bites for a Leaner Body
High protein foods are meant for bodybuilders. Weight lifting? That too. FALSE!
I love weight lifting and I do it 2-3 times a week, and have been doing it for quite some time now. But I don’t have a muscular body. Reason: I don’t have testosterones.
Getting back to proteins- Do you know that high protein foods slow the movement of food through your digestive track keeping you feel fuller for longer. Not only that, they improve the circulation of stored fats, thereby giving you a leaner body.
It is indeed a challenge to meet your daily protein requirement. More so if you are a vegan. I try to incorporate proteins in almost every meal I consume. Sprouts, eggs, cheese, paneer- they are all good sources of protein. But how about a diet loaded with lots and lots of protein? Protein bars and whey protein to rescue. But choosing the right protein bar is indeed a task. You need to get the right amount of protein, carbs, etc. A good protein bar should have more than 10g protein.
I recently got some treats from Naturell and I am seduced by the amount of protein each bar contains! 20 g protein. Though these bars are classified as meal replacement bars, I did not eat these as main meals. Instead, I had them as mini meals. I don’t believe in replacing lunch with salad or fruits and same goes for this.
I am a chocolate person & the first bar that I opened was Choco Fudge. It contains 20 g protein and 308 calories. I had it as my 3rd meal. (1st was a fruit, 2nd breakfast and this was 3rd). I decided to have this when I was working offsite, at a campaign venue. I CANNOT live without eating anything between breakfast and lunch and this bar did an amazing job of keeping me full till lunch. And of course, I loved the taste.
The second bar that I opened was Choco Slim. Contains 20g protein and 258 calories. I had it post lunch, around 4. It kept me full for good 3 hours. I had my next meal at 7:30, I could hear my stomach growling by then. I loved this one too.
The third bar was Honey lemon. I had this around 7, on my way home. It was way too sweet for me. Also, I did not like the tartness in the flavour.
What I liked:
- The high protein content from an all vegetarian source
- They kept me full for good 3-4 hours
- Loaded with Omega 3- flaxseeds
- High vitamin content
- You can carry them in your bag & have it on the go
What I did not like:
- The sugar content is pretty high. Especially for Honey lemon bar
