Health supplements you should be taking

Health supplements you should be taking

What’s the most common sight in office post lunch? People running towards the coffee machine or asking each other for something sweet to eat.

Reason- Nutrient deprivation. When your body is deprived of nutrients, you start getting calls from the coffee machine (read: feel sluggish). Tiredness, insomnia, PMS, mood swings, lethargy, saddlebags & constant battles to lose weight are directly related to nutrient deficiency.

Do you know that our daily requirement of nutrients & minerals is not fulfilled by fruits & vegetables? There are various reasons for the same- processing, foreign grown produce, current farming methods to state a few. And hence, it is important to incorporate some health supplements in your diet.

Multivitamin & Iron tablets

Following are 2 supplements that I consume on a regular basis:

  • Multivitamins

Multivitamins should be taken with breakfast as the body takes time to absorb them.

  • Calcium

Rujuta Diwekar recommends that one should take Ca tablets of 1000 milligrams a day for optimum health. Here’s my supplement: Always choose Calcium citrate/lactate over carbonate/phosphate as the former as easily absorbed by our bodies.

On my bedside table- Multivitamin & Iron tablets

It is best to take supplements along with a meal as they are absorbed much better by the body along with a meal.

Why wait for a fracture to start taking calcium? Or a heart attack to start multivitamins? Make these supplements a part of your lifestyle and I’m sure you’ll see a lot of improvement in your health.

I generally get my multivitamins and iron tablets from stores, and I buy calcium supplements online. You can check out the top nutritional supplement brands on Healthkart. I will be reviewing some of the products in the following blog posts.
